Getting our HTML code onto your blog or site

If you are an experienced HTML user and website builder, you can just copy the HTML that you’ll find after logging in to the Admin page, and then paste it onto your site: end of story!

For users of ‘big-site’ (hosted) blogging and web site management tools, there are slightly different conventions about how and where you can make changes. The instructions below may look somewhat daunting, but just bear in mind the following points, and you’ll see why the steps are necessary:

The ClustrMaps ‘HTML code’ is the part that (i) makes your unique thumbnail map appear and (ii) simultaneously updates your counters in our database, so that at the next update (normally overnight, but can be longer for heavy users) you get a freshly updated map.
Inserting the ClustrMaps HTML code into your page is NOT exactly the same process as merely ‘writing and posting a story or blog entry’: the reason is that you normally want the map to be in a special location that will appear regularly (whereas a single posting or story will eventually ’scroll away’ into past history). This special location is typically what is known as the ’sidebar’ or ‘gutter’ on the left or right side of your page, but it may also be in the ‘header’ or ‘footer’ if you so choose.
If your blog resides at the site of a ‘big blog provider’ (like MSN or AOL or Blogger) then you need to ‘get inside the settings’ to find the place to insert your ClustrMaps HTML code. This is precisely what the steps below help you achieve.

A step-by-step guide

PHASE I: Copy your ClustrMaps HTML code

1. Log in to your ClustrMaps ‘Admin’ page by clicking on the Admin link at the top of any ClustrMaps page, or going directly to: http://www.clustrmaps.com/admin/action.php (use your URL as your username, and the password you have been sent, or the password you changed it to)

2. On your admin page, you will see a box containing the relevant HTML code. Click in the box with your mouse and select ALL of that text (you can use the two keyboard keys CTRL+A to select all of it)

3. Now copy that HTML (you can use the two keyboard keys CTRL+C to perform this, or right-click with the mouse and select ‘Copy’); you will then paste it into your web page later on below.

PHASE II: Blog-specific alterations (hosted blog)

4. Now you must log into your blog hosting account, using the sequence you would normally use, say, if you were about to change your blog settings or preferences or user profile information. Do this in a separate browser window if possible, or in the same window you are currently using if that is simpler for you.

5. You now need to alter the ‘code’ on your page where the map is going to appear. To do this, follow the specific instructions for your type of blog chosen from the selection below (some steps are identical for all systems, as you’ll see).

Before introducing the program, let me introduce myself, I am Michael Odrgan, original from Brussels, Belgium.
